Rosslyn Escalator to the Underworld
The escalator at the Rosslyn Metro station in Arlington, Virginia is the longest I’ve ever seen. I was curious, so I looked up what the the longest escalators in the world are. While Rosslyn is not the longest escalator in the world, or even in the Washington D.C. Metro system, it ranks up there near the top. Rosslyn station apparently has the third longest continuous escalator in the world, probably just according to one style of measurement.
Wheaton station has the longest escalator in the Western Hemisphere. Rosslyn comes in 5th in the D.C. Metro system. Forest Glen station is the deepest in the D.C. Metro system, at almost 200 feet underground. Kind of scary knowing you’re 200 feet underground when you’re riding the subway.
However, these escalators pale in comparison to the ones in Europe and Asia.
